Sweet and Sour Cabbage

This Sweet and Sour Cabbage recipe makes a meal on its own or can be eaten as a side dish. It is fantastic with Perogies or dinner sausage. We love its versatility, so many options! and so quick and easy to make! Depending on portion size this can feed anywhere from 4-8 people!

Sweet and Sour Cabbage

Ingredients
 ½ cup Grassfed Butter
 1 Head Cabbage
 12 oz Apple-Chicken Dinner Sausage (optional)
 8 oz Mushrooms
 2 Medium Onions (sweet or yellow)
 ½ Large Red Pepper
 White Vinegar
 Date Syrup or Honey
 ½ tsp Black Pepper
 12 tsp Garlic Powder*
 12 tsp Onion Powder

Directions

Heat electric skilled to 300 degrees. You can also do this with a large skillet on the stove top.

Gently melt butter.

Chop onions. Cut onion in half, cut into slices, then cut the slices in half.

Add onions to butter.

Cut sausages in half lengthwise then cut into pieces. (optional)

Add sausages to onions. (optional)

Cut mushrooms into slices.

Add mushrooms to sausage and onions.

While mushrooms, sausage, and onions are cooking, cut red pepper into strips then into pieces.

Add red pepper to sausage, onion, and mushrooms.

Allow the sausage, onion, mushroom, and pepper mixture to cook for a few minutes (about 4-5 minutes).

While sausage, onion, mushroom, and pepper mixture is cooking, clean and cut cabbage into thin strips.

Add cabbage to mixture then mix easily so that cabbage is on bottom and mixture is on top. Does not have to be exact.

Sprinkle vinegar over top of cabbage mixture -- about 1/4-1/2 cup total.

Drizzle date syrup (or honey) over top of vinegar -- about 1/4 - 1/2 cup total.

Gently stir and rotate to mix all of this together.

Now sprinkle liberally over top of cabbage mixture the garlic*, onion, and black pepper seasoning.

*You can absolutely use 4-5 fresh, minced garlic cloves, if you prefer.

Stir to combine just as you did in step 16 above.

Allow to cook for about 10-15 minutes.

Serve, eat, and enjoy!
