Once upon a time we had to hunt or forage for our food, then we learned to grow some of it – we still knew exactly where our food came from. We either grew it ourselves, or bought it from someone who grew it – we were maybe one or two people removed from the provider of our food.
Now we go to the supermarket and much of our food comes in a box. It has a list of ingredients you don’t recognize. Where do these ingredients come from? Are they man-made or artificial? Who grew them? Even when we are buying lovely organic produce, it’s wrapped in plastic and came from Chile or somewhere! We are so far removed from the source of our food. We are lucky if we have time to cook it!
Many of the animals we eat are not well treated. They are malnourished, loaded with antibiotics and growth hormones. If you are a meat eater, you should choose to eat only pasture fed, organic, and free range meat. Be sure you are taking a quality enzyme to help digest animal protein properly.
Many of the plants we eat are not well nourished. We spray them with chemicals and grow them in depleted soils, starting with GMO seeds. Check out the Dirty Dozen list from the Environmental Working Group for a list of produce that should really be organic.
Sometimes it gets frustrating – all these choices we’re supposed to make to eat clean and green and be healthy – it’s expensive! And time consuming! You have to read a lot and know all this stuff!
Read labels, talk to your local farmers, and learn as much as you can about organic, glyphosate, pesticides, and ways you can work to consume pure, healthy foods.
